3 Best Ways to Experience Fall Foliage at Moraine State Park

To many, fall foliage is Pennsylvania’s apex for natural beauty, and, perhaps the most beautiful visage of the ephemeral display can be seen in the reflection of Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park. A short drive from Pittsburgh, the lake is surrounded by rolling hills in a historic moraine depression that seems to cradle the Autumn colors and amplify the experience. Here are three great ways to experience the foliage at the iconic Park.

Making History with Envision Blind Sports

Making History with Envision Blind Sports

SurfSUP Adventures has been working with Envision Blind Sports for a little over 3-years now, but this year marks a milestone of accomplishment.  Thanks mostly to executive director, Wendy Fagan, and the incredible volunteer network from Slippery Rock University’s, Adaptive Sports program, Envision has become the largest blind sports camp in the country.  In total, 70 visually impaired youth ages 6 to 18 participated in 20 sports over the course of the week-long program in June of 2018.

First Waves at 5Point Film Festival Pittsburgh

First Waves at 5Point Film Festival Pittsburgh

There’s something about outdoor film festivals that makes you question what you’re capable of.  The combination of immaculately captured places, harrowing adventures, and a cast of characters only conjured by sports involving leaps from cliffs, vertical climbs, or skate boards hurdling down mountain roads at 70-mph.  But why are these festivals so moving?

Nestled in the urban sprawl of Pittsburgh’s East End, The Mount Ararat Community Activity Center provides innovative programs and experiential learning to the area’s families and youth.  Earlier this summer, the Center debuted a new program for a select group of students, part of which involved teaching them to surf in whitewater rivers.

OFFICIALLY OPEN

The first eco-tour of every year is always a special one.  I am excited to see the changes in the landscape carved by winter’s touch, the emerging spring flowers, and the return of the Ospreys from their pilgrimage to South America.

Spring Training at the U.S. National Whitewater Center

Positioned at the end of a gloriously paved private road, the U.S. National Whitewater Center is a utopia of outdoor fun.  Mountain bike trails, high-ropes courses, and zip-lines adorn the property, and a well-stocked brewery is situated nicely above the competition whitewater channel where Olympians train and SurfSUP Adventures guides crash.
