OFFICIALLY OPEN

SPRING ECO-TOURS at LAKE ARTHUR

The first eco-tour of every year is always a special one.  I am excited to see the changes in the landscape carved by winter’s touch, the emerging spring flowers, and the return of the Ospreys from their pilgrimage to South America.

Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park is a hot-zone for migratory birds and each year, something new will embellish the early-season tours.  On this year’s inaugural event, we saw plenty of ducks and geese but a massive congregation of cormorants on Pirate Island was the highlight.  What looked like hundreds of them were flying and roosting on the island’s stand of hardwoods against a backdrop of budding limbs.

The osprey made its rounds throughout the cove along with king fishers and herons.  It was apparent that the lake’s wildlife is waking up along with SurfSUP to begin our 6tth season together.  It has been amazing to follow the seasons in these places and learn their secrets.  Sharing them with others is the best part and this year is already off to a beautiful start.
